Endocrine Pathology

by Carlo Raj, MD

Endocrine pathology refers to the study of conditions that affect the endocrine glands. These conditions include the very common diabetes mellitus and thyroid disorders, disorders of the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, disorders of the adrenal glands, bone density disorders related to parathyroid dysfunction, and reproductive disorders related to endocrine function.

In this course, the student will be introduced to the pathophysiology of the ailments affecting the pituitary gland, thyroid and parathyroid glands, and adrenal glands. Bone diseases will also be discussed.

For optimal understanding, the student needs to be familiar with the entirety of endocrine physiology, including the regulatory mechanism of hormones.

Endocrine pathologies have a very distinctive presentation, as the abundance or absence of endocrine secretions has immediate and recognizable effects on the physiology and, ultimately, the clinical presentation of the individual.

A general physician and nurse should have a clear understanding of the typical presentations of common endocrine abnormalities and the accompanying clinical manifestations. Furthermore, owing to the intricate nature of the management of these conditions, a clinician must be able to redirect care to the appropriate subspecialist to ensure the best outcomes.

Narratives of professors’ lectures
By Huyen D. on 26. February 2023 for Adrenal Gland Disorders

The videos are generally good, but I would like sometime to read the materials (e.g, the narratives of what professors are saying), which could be on a popped up window. That way I can learn faster by reading 1 min instead of listening 3 mins
