Key tips for searching:
This varies from course to course. With many modern online courses, integrated multiple choice tests are included. We recommend that you always take part in these tests to check your progress!
At the end of the course, some providers offer you an optional statement of participation. Other providers offer certificates for a successfully completed course. Some providers are even developing credit points for students. In most cases, the certificates are optional and require payment of a fee. Please review the details on the course providers' websites.

MOOCs are "Massive Open Online Courses".
They are modern online video courses where
participants can interact (e.g. via discussion forums).
MOOCs are different from online lectures of universities, which are just basic video recordings. In our directory you will find both, MOOCs as well as online lectures (and other video-based online courses).

In order to complete an online course successfully, you should follow a few basic rules such as taking notes and interacting with other course participants.
We have summarized the 5 most important tips in this article.
Edukatico is a search portal and is completely free to use. For the listed online courses, it will be indicated whether the course is registered in our directory as a free or paid course.
Some courses are actually completely free! In other cases, you can learn free of charge and are required to pay only if you want to get an optional certificate.
Details on any fees can be reviewed on the course provider's website. You should always read this before you take part in a course.

Most of the online courses in our directory are being offered in English. However, we also list many courses in German.
Simply adjust the language filter in your search if you would like to view only English courses.
The difficulty levels are based on an initial assessment. But depending on your prior knowledge, any individual course may still appear "too easy" or "too difficult" to you.
We therefore recommend that you always check out the details of the course on the course provider's website. In addition, many providers offer an introductory video for each online course, which you can view before attending.
Our directory of online courses can only show the current status of available courses.
The quality levels of the courses can be quite diverse. Often, video courses from MOOC platforms offer better quality than recorded video lectures from universities.
In many cases, however, there are introductory videos that can give you a good impression of the quality before you start the course.
Many course providers offer optional course certificates or statements of participation.
Whether this is useful for you depends on who issued the certificate and what you intend to do with it.
The major course providers (such as Coursera, edX or Udacity) are already well-known to many employers. In a job application, you can thus show with a certificate that you have successfully learned from top institutions like Harvard, Stanford & Co.
(Also read: "Are the Certificates Worth It?")
On the MOOC platform edX, most courses are accessible even after the course ends. If the course is marked as "archived", you can usually still view the course content for free. (Tests and certificates may not be available.)
However, the courses are usually repeated quite often.
The MOOC platform Coursera offers extensive course series in addition to individual MOOCs.
These course series contain about 4-6 MOOCs on one topic and are called "Specialization". At the end of the course, there is usually a project (Capstone Project) to apply what you have learned. After completion, you may get a certificate (paid).
Specializations are a highly focused training on a particular topic. Similar course series are available from other providers.
Online course providers are still testing the best course formats for their learners. Some online courses have a fixed start and end date, similar to traditional classes. However, most of these online courses are repeated very often.
We always aim to keep our course directory up to date. In some cases, however, course providers may change individual courses and the change may not yet be reflected in our directory. If you spot a mistake, please let us know!
