The Financial Services industry is changing rapidly. Upcoming FinTech companies from around the world are valued at billions of dollars and threaten the business models of incumbent banks and investment advisors. Digital technology changes the rules of the game everywhere.

At the same time, significant regulatory changes are taking place. For example, EU member states will have to implement new regulation of investment services until January 2018 to enhance investor protection.

With all of these changes going on, what is the current state of the digital transformation of finance? What will the future look like?

4 New Online Courses on the Disruption of Finance

Copenhagen Business School is now introducing new MOOCs (massive open online courses) on the Coursera platform. These online courses explore the impact of digital transformation on financial services.

The courses are led by two experienced professors from the school´s Department of Digitalization (Jonas Hedman and Stefan Henningsson). Their goal is for learners to understand the digital dynamics and to be able to successfully compete in the "digital age of finance".

We briefly talked to the digitalization experts about their new online course.

In the final Capstone Project, they will create and defend a holistic digital transformation strategy for a real world company.

"Sweden is Almost Cashless"

Edukatico: There are learners from many different countries who are expected to participate in the course. How does the state of digital transformation in the financial industry differ between countries?

Professor Hedman: So, far we can say that we have a broad audience from around the world

The digitalization differs a lot between countries and regions; one extreme case is Sweden which is almost cashless

Edukatico: Lastly, we would like to know what your expectation is from teaching an online version of this course. What are the main differences between teaching on campus and teaching online?

Professor Hedman: As an online teacher, you need to reflect much more on how you present the topic, since you have less time – you need to get to the point!

Edukatico: Thank you and good luck with your new courses!

The new online courses are launched on the Coursera platform on October 16, 2017. Participants may still enroll in the courses after that date. The full course series (including certificate) is available for a monthly fee; however, the individual MOOCs are free for learners on the audit track.
