We have asked an online student who is planning to learn about counterterrorism and cybersecurity to tell us about her experience.

Kimberly H. from the U.S. has attended online courses before. For example, she has learned about medical neuroscience in an online course (MOOC) offered by Duke University via Coursera.

Which Online Courses Does She Want to Do Next?

Kimberly would now like to take an online course on terrorism and counterterrorism offered by Georgetown University via edX:

"I would like to do this course because I think that it is important to know exactly what terrorism is and to be aware of the existing threats against our country.

It looks like this course would also discuss how terrorists become evil as well as the methods and technology they use to wreak havoc on other people. Lastly, I am mostly interested in learning about counterterrorist tactics that are already in place to keep us safe."

She is also planning to take a course on the U.S. prison system via edX to get a deeper understanding of the topic than she can get from TV documentaries.

"This course interests me because I have always been fascinated with the prison system. Prison documentaries are some of my favorite series, and even though it is very sad and concerning, it is fascinating how incarceration has risen so much and become what it is today.

I think this course could also give me some insight as to recidivism reasons and why people can´t seem to stay out of trouble despite how terrible the conditions in prisons are."

Another topic Kimberly finds interesting is cybersecurity, where she is also considering taking an online course from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

"I have always had a keen interest in cybersecurity despite not being a computer scientist or wanting to have a career in any type of engineering. I got my master’s degree in a scientific field but also decided to pursue a graduate certificate in computer forensics due to my interest in the topic.

Even though I took courses similar to this one, there is so much information out there I know I could learn many more things from this course."
